OS: Windows XP Professional
CPU/Ram: Pentium 4 640 3.2GHz, 800
Model/Manufacturer: Dell/ Dimension XPS Gen4
Comment:

I think w32/Alemond.f.dll virus has infected my wininet.dll file. (per McAfee virus scan) cannot clean or delete file.
I found this after getting an that states the following: "Explorer.EXE-Application Error the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) click on OK to terminate application" No desctop icons, background or start menue.

I cannot find your virus at Mcaffee. Did Mcaffe quaranteen the file? Did you go to Mcaffee to see what their removal instructions were, or if they had a removal tool for it?

Hello ethanlevine,

i would suggest you to read and follow HijackThis tutorial to see what is a real cause of your problem. Maybe it is a virus or maybe not.

I did go to McAffee's website. I didn’t
find any information about w32/Alemond.f.dll. The only help they seamed to offer was for $$$, so i thought I would try this approach first. (See if you selfless soldiers of altruism could give me a hand : ) Thanks

try booting in safe mode,

run virus and spyware scans,

try replacing wininet.dll from cd, or running sfc,

:)
