Comment:

I have this pesky trojan or hijacker or whatever it is (vx2.look2me) and I cannot get rid of it. I read an old thread about this but most of what they were talking about is foreign to me.

I ran CWSshredder and found this, but it cannot finish the removal process. When it reboots I get a memory write error and it won't complete. All spyware programs I've tried (Adaware and Trend Micro) do not detect it. I also have McAfee which doesn't pick it up either.

I have WinPatrol on my computer but it has not alerted me to anything strange trying to run. I have found one thing that looked malicious and blocked that awhile back, but what it was I don't remember. I just know that I've run virus scans and adware scans and such several times since then. At one time I had a trojan and had 8 infected files but that has been cleaned (all subsequent scans come clean) but this is still pestering me.

What it does is brings up an error saying there are problems with my registry would I like to download WinFixer. And I can click anything- yes, cancel, close and it opens up a page to start the download. I have to close this out 2-3 times before it stops. It sometimes does start to download on it's own which isn't comforting.

Please help me get rid of this. I'm about ready to reinstall Windows all together.

both links found using Yahoo!

Also, Ad-aware does have a special plug-in to handle VX2.

Also, in the november PC World edition, they specificly said that CounterSpy and Spy Sweeper were succesful in removing VX2.Look2Me

Maybe the free version of CounterSpy will help you remove it.
