Hi, I have a virus (or viruses) on my computer that
wont let me open explorer or firefox and also will not
let me us my virus scanner (CA). It also wont let me
open many anti virus programs such as anti malaware
and spybot. I also can not restore my computer to a
previous date. I already tried AVG. I am not sure
what else to do. If anyone can help I would truly appreciate it. Oh, and I also can not run the scanner
from this website because I cannot run explorer and it
will not let me scan without it. Thanks for the help!
cuallstar, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 (left column) and click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it or right click it and choose "merge" and answer yes to the import prompt.

If you can't run the file do the following:
Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.exe and press Enter. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that reg file fix, hilite it and click Open.
Note: If you can't access the Internet with the problem computer use another computer to download the reg file fix onto a CD, thumb drive, or floppy and transfer the file to the problem computer.
After that .reg file is merged into the registry successfully restart your computer's hard drive.

download was on the first link. It took me to a website where i
could buy some product. Will these steps take the viruses off

It won't get rid of any virus or malware but it may fix your .exe file association.

Install avast anti virus and run a boot time scan, also when links
redirect you to buy products that means your infected with
spyware. type the link it without clicking it and it should take you
to the right page also try and scan malewarebytes.org
