Subject: Viruses, BackWeb & Spyware? HELP
OS: WindowsME
CPU/Ram: Pentium P3928-80201
Comment:

Hello all,
I have scanned and noted the following virus: hktl.prockill.a
I have add/removed BackWeb from my comp.
Yet, file '~' continues to be repeatedly created on my desktop, and suddenly my mouse cursor goes mad on screen, then closes any windows I'm in.
Have I missed something?
The original scan noted that this virus was noncleanable, but I am CERTAIN that you brilliant people will be able to shed some light here! Thanks in advance!

Hello LoriG,
BackWeb is a program you download to get into financial information, this is not a virus.
I believe better you got a cookie spyware from that site which is still embaded into your system, but generating bugs when you deleted the program itself.
To rid off that situation, you need to clean your temporary internet files folder.
You do that by using the "option" on your Internet Explorer program.
Then to download freeware program AdAware to be sure you don't have any other cookies spywares still active into your system:
http://lavasoft.element5.com/default.shtml.en You need to download too this wonderful protection against cookies spywares called SpywareBlaster:
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareblaster.html
That should fix the problem...

Lori, in addition to downloading Ad-Aware, which is a great program, also download SpyBot-Search and Destroy, which you can find through Google. Sometimes these annoying little spyware things will be caught by one program, but not another. So, having both programs is a good way to make sure these things are really gone.

I remember having trouble with a spyware program that took forever to delete and would always just re-name itself and plop right back down in the folder it was in and stick it's tongue out at me---Gator. Both Ad-Aware and SpyBot used together gave the little booger what for and I finished it off by deleting the file in safe mode.

A great way to stay away from Gator by the way, is to not download the free version of DIVX Player, which I did and regretted. If you need a DIVX player, buy the paid version of the aforementioned program, or, look up Video Lan, which will play DIVX files, WMA files, and a lot of others except for Real files.

Done and THANK YOU!

One more quick question:
In IE Options, Temp Files, Settings, View Objects, Downloaded Program Files, there's a list of ActiveX Control/Shockwave files.
I've already ran/removed Adware/SpyBlaster...should I need worry about these ActiveX files?

Thanks again for HELPING ME!
I owe ya guys dinner!
