Hey WaWa where do you get the idea that every computer running Windows says that? Mine doesn't-- but it does say "Veryfing DMI Pool data" -- just for a few seconds then it has finished booting up--

your pc should only give a "completed updated files" if some change has been made on yoru pc.. for example if you install new software and it has to reboot. then you will see the message. it does NOT appear every single time.. it appears that somethign is updating my system either deleting files slowly or doing something else that requires the boot up to finish completing the update.. this is NOT a normal message upon bootup unless changes are taking place on your PC

Reply:

The thing that drives this message is the contents of WINININT.ini
and the previous file from the previous boot (where changes were made) are in WININIT.bak

Post the contents of the INI back here.

In which case the message is not (necessarily) coming from the windows standard way of updating files.
And could be a message from one of your startup programs.

TRY
Start > Run > MSCONFIG > Startup Tab
UNselect everything
Reboot and see if the message appears.

BTW In Explorer, do you have the option set to show all files??
Ie: when you view the file WIN.INI under \Windows, does the INI show?

The Wininit.ini and Wininit.bak files will be under \Windows.

yes i have looked at all files and when i search it shows the .ini.. when i look at it now. it is almost like some setup program is running.. becasue it says setup is updating files or somethign. i will try unchecking all teh stuff in the startup.. i had gone in there previously and looked ot see what oculd be doing that.. i basically just have the basic stuff plus norton system works.. buti have had that in there forever. i will try it though and see.. thanks..
