Virus that causes semi random shut downs?

Microsoft Windows xp home edition sp2b

Specs: Windows XP
Left the computer before goin to bed and found it turned of in the morning.
After that the computer has turned off at random or when i try to do specific tasks.
But even if its off it shows activity on the ethernet card.

What makes it shuts down:
- Sometimes during boot up, but not always
- If the internet is connected it shut downs within 10 min of bootup
- Any time i try and run a virus scan
- If I boot from a CD with a virus program on, it will either shut down after some time when then OS dont starts to load or if i try and start any program on the CD.

Dont belive its the power supply or any component getting warm that causes it because ive been able to start the computer without internet access and playing games, starting programs and watching movies without problem for more then an hour. However when i double clicked the antivirus icon in the system tray the computer shut down.

I'm at my wits end, please help.

Its a desktop.

But it seems like its a combo of blaster and faulty hardware, there of the inconsistent shutdowns.
Because last night I wasnt even able to start the computer because it would turn off within a second of turning on, and the times it did go past a second it never stayed on, it never even finished loading the OS.

The only component that overheats that fast in my experience is the CPU so i took it out, cleaned it and changed the cooling paste and put it back in. But still the same problem.

So i did the same with my graphic card and cleaned up the power supply. But alas the problem persists.

So after work im gonna try n change to an old power supply and if it works then ill open up and check the new one and try to fix it or buy another one.... and THEN ill get rid of the pesky virus.
