My son-in-law has a Sony Vaio running Windows XP pro and recently got hit by Spybot which manifested itself as kzcks.exe.
He's a complete novice and didn't have the latest updates and NAV signatures and learned his lesson the hard way.
I've now removed the infection and updated his XP and IE to the latest patches but still have one minor annoying problem, he can't access the symantec web site from IE, it comes up saying page not available, and NAV will also not update the virus signatures for the same reason.
All was OK before the hit so its obvious I must have missed something.
Anybody any ideas please?

hi firkle,
disable system restore to flush out system of virii, get the latest virus def's. reboot to safe mode and scan with anti-virus. delete all files it comes up with. clean cache, temp files, history and cookie folders, clean out recycle bin. reboot into normal mode, re enable system restore.if you still can't access nav, or use it, then go to www.thepublicworks.com, go to payware, link to trojan hunter anti-trojan, download free 30 day trial of trojan hunter, get latest def's and scan computer while in safe mode, delete all files it finds. follow the instructions you see above.
i would seriously think of changing my anti-virus to another as there are issues with norton anti-virus. look up nod32 or hauri anti-virus.
all the best,
murve

"I would seriously think of changing my anti-virus to another as there are issues with norton anti-virus."
Which issues are these? I am curious because I have used norton for many years and have never had a problem.

hi wannaBtech,
according to norton there were some security issues and patches had to be downloaded with norton 2004, and nis 2004 or something to that effect, you can probably read about it on their site. i read about it a couple of weeks ago.
hope this helps, all the best,
murve
