Virus still present after format

March 5, 2009 at 07:53:04
Specs: Windows XP
I got a virus on my computer last night. I had no luck removing it with NOD32 so I decided to reformat my C drive. Now after I have formatted the drive and re-installed windows the virus is still present. I'm guessing it is hiding in my other hard drive. I can't format this as I have nowhere to backup all the data. What should I do?

How do you know you have a virus? What ever method tells you (virus scanner for example) should also tell you where it is. You should then post the details here to get help removing it without formatting.

The virus is called Win32/SPY.ZBOT.KY Trojan. It is found and successfully removed with NOD32. However after a couple of restarts (even after format) it is still present.

When you receive the notification that the virus is present, what is the location? If it was present on the OS partition, then a fixmbr, format and reinstall would indeed remove it unless you connected it to the net before updating the virus definitions.
