Hi,
In my origional thread http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/163714.html It was recommended that I come here for help.Origional post:
Hi, I'm having trouble with email programs. I thought it was only with Outlook Express but I just tried another (mailpeek) and I get the same results. When I try to send an email Mcafee alerts me to "worm activity". I can stop the messages easily enough, but when I let them pass I see that Mcafee is scanning 1 of 1, 2 of 2, 3 of 3 then Mcafee tells me again of possible worm activity. If I click to let it pass I see the same thing counting up 4 of 4, 5 of 5, 6 of 6....etc. The thing is there are no messages actually being sent (even when I let them pass). I try to send an email to myself at another email address but nothing, also when I use Yahoo email I get an 'error on page' message on the bottom left of the browser. Any help would greatly appriciated.
I've checked for updates and have used Mcafee online, I installed AVG and tried that with nothing found, and Mcafee stinger.
Running processes:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSGSRV32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mmtask.tsk
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSTASK.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\MCVSRTE.exe
C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.exe
C:\WINDOWS\TASKMON.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSTRAY.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\MCVSSHLD.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MCAFEE.COM\AGENT\MCAGENT.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STIMON.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MCAFEE.COM\VSO\MCVSESCN.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\ZERO KNOWLEDGE\FREEDOM\FREEDOM.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WMIEXE.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\IEXPLORE.exe
C:\DOWNLOADED\HIJACKTHIS.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PSTORES.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DDHELP.exe

Try ending this process MCVSESCN.exe and then see if you can send and receive your email normally.
If so, you may want to rename it to oldmsvsescn.exe and contact McAffee for support.
This is a known issue.
Good Luck

Well....the funny thing is I have Mcafee installed on two other computers and everything seems to work as it should. The answer to the previous post is yes. If I disable email scanning then I can send email normally (I've been receiving fine). I'm just trying to find the difference. The computers have the same OS with updates, the only difference is the actual computers. I'll do as you're recommending and disable the protection when I send email. I just hope that there aren't any malicious email going out at the same time.
