hi,
After windows loads I am unable to use the keyboard. I can move the mouse ok - but it cannot activate any applications. I have tried a total of 3 keyboards and none work. I thought about reinstalling windows - but I need a keyboard to do this. I assume that I have some sort of virus. can anyone advise a solution.???

Go to start> control panel> system> hardware> device manager> click the plus sign to the left of keyboard> right click on the the keyboard that shows up> click uninstall> ok.
Restart the computer and see if the keyboard will work.

It doesn't sound like a virus that you're suffering from. Probably more likely to be a problem with the keyboard drivers and/or configuration.
Does the keyboard work before you load in to Windows? Ie. can you navigate the boot select menu and system settings? If this is the case, it would definitely point to a problem with your hardware setup. Check out Device Manager as stated above to see if there's any error related to the keyboard.
