Just recently, whenever I connect to the Internet on my new computer and open any website, (Im using IE6.0, XP Home) the whole System freezes, and needs a manual 'button reboot'.
This happens when it tries to load ANY type of image in the browser.Does this sound like a virus or something that someone may have come across before??
Help or advice to overcome this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

What antivirus software and firewall do you use? Have you run a scan? Go to PC PITSTOP and run the full system scan. There is also a virus scan at the same site, and run it too. This will give you an idea of how your system is set up, and how it is operating. If you have no firewall, get one. Go to Flank PC or Wilders.Org and the firewall. You can also get an anti-trojan program on a trial basis and scan your computer for any trojans at those sites. If you have no antivirus get Grisoft's AVG 6.0. All the best!

I am using Norton Antivirus, the copy which came with the computer. As for that, i pretty much have nothing.
Thanks for the websites and ideas, they are very helpful.
Yet this problem with the browser stops me from being able to visit ANY webpages, including the ones you have mentioned.

You say new computer? is the whole system new? or have you upgraded?
its sounds like your graphics card!

My XP machine was freezing often, a friend suggested I do this & it worked,
no more freezes since I changed itRight mouse click on desktop/ properties/ settings / advanced/ troubleshoot
and if the bar for Hardware Acceleration is all the way to the right move
