I have a virus (?) problem, which causes the following:

1. Cannot access various sites, e.g. www.symantec.com

2. Cannot run regedit and other .exe (some e.g. cmd.exe run)

3. Antivirus is disabled

4. Stinger (of NAI), renamed to cmd to run reports all ok, but virus list is not shown

5. FixSirc, FixSwen (of Symantec) report all ok

6. In Task Manager the processes are not shown (gray tab)

7. Cannot start PC in Safe Mode

8. All .exe run when renamed in .cmd or .com

Any ideas?
Thanks

These are classic symptoms of the "swen virus" however you say that fixswen reports all ok?? Check Symantec site for any records of new variants that fixswen cant detect. You may want to try a utility called clnswen (cant remember who its by but I'm sure a Google search will turn it up).
Also try re-installing your AV or try installing a different one (AVG is usually a good choice).
Repost on here if you have no luck and I'll put some more thought into it.

Thanks for your answer.
I tried everything but no result - the problems remained the same.
So I took the long road and re-installed XP... :-)
Now everything is ok. BTW I also installed NOD32 as antivirus.I hope it is better than Norton I had previously.
