I am having major problems with my computer. It is constantly at 100% CPU usage and I am also having popup ad problems. I have fixed a few things already, but the CPU usage is unbearable. Please help me fix this.

Lets get rid of any spy/adware and look for a virus first. Download and run these programs:

CW-Shredder Looks for the CoolWebSearch or one of its variants

SpyBot download and run after you update it - delete everything in red it finds. If you have trouble updating, use the USA site to download from - you can make that change at the top of the download page

Panda ActiveScan-VirusCheck Get a free virus scan and fix

Also: (this is for 98 and ME but should be close to XP)
Open up IE, from the drop down menu choose Tools, Internet Options, Delete Temporary Internet Files and cookies. (cookies optional) On the 'content tab' choose 'auto complete', clear passwords and forms (optional)
Go to Start, Run, type temp , delete all the files in that folder
Do the same for recent
Delete all the .tmp and .chk files you can find. To do so, click Start/Find and in the search box (field) type *.tmp and this will search for all your temporary files. Repeat for chk files by typing *.chk in the search field, make sure you are looking in 'C'.
Empty Recycle Bin
Run scandisk and then defrag

I have done most of the stuff you listed and am finishing the rest. It has gotten rid of tons of stuff, but the CPU problem is still there. Most of the usage is by scvhost.exe. Is this a virus and how do I fix this? Thanks for the all the previous help too.

I have deleted new.net more than once, and it keeps popping up, but the main problem is svchost.exe.

Hi,

These two are your problem.

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.c.worm.html

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.gaobot.dk.html

Run an online virus scan, set it to autoclean.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

New.net removal;
http://www.newdotnet.com/#remove

Next, move Hijack This to a permanent directory like c:\program files\hijack this\hijackthis.exe. This way you can undo any changes if something goes wrong.
Run hijackthis again.
Put a check next to these, click "fix checked" and reboot.

After a restart,
delete these folders:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dpi\
C:\Program Files\Common files\updater

You need to get your critical updates also.

Good luck
Post a new log when your done.

My CPU usage is back down to single digits, but I am sure there are other problems. Thanks for the major help though.

Glad part of the problem is fixed, to
prevent it from finding it's way back, you need to update Internet Explorer v6.00 to v6.00 sp1.

New.Net will mess up your connection if
removed improperly, instructions above.

Good luck
