I'll try to make it short but? This friends PC I'm working on is extremely slow, multiple popups etc. First off he had no virus protection so I downloaded free AVG. It appeared to load/install okay but in setting it up and trying an initial scan the program would go off/ disappear from the desktop. I reinstalled (3times) and the program would not run. That was problem number one.
Number two: I downloaded HJT, went to the scan analyzer and cannot get HJT to work. It almost does the same thing. It will scan but when I try to check a box for deleting/repair this program stops, and disapears as well.
I hope I made this problem clear. Please advise.

Are you running these scans in safe mode?
Also download ,Ewido anti-Malware and also run in safe mode
Post back if you need further assistance" It'll Get Ya When You Aint Lookin "
Please Post back to let us know if we helped

Can you post a HT log and a startup list.I'm sure you know how to post a log but to post a startup list run HT,click the "open misc. tools" button>check both boxes to the right of "generate startup list log">then clcik generate startup list log and post that if you can. If you can't check the boxes post it without checking them if possible.
Also download stinger to a cd or floppy and try to run it on the infected pc Stinger

If I was having this problem and I have I would wipe and reload it. Because there was no virus protector on the PC it is infected to much to just put one on now. I hope that this helps.

jabuck, I assume all the below is what you requested. I did finally get AVG and HJT working (safe mode) and had 1166 infected files. I agree with fixit01 about a format & reinstall, however, the machine is not mine.
Please advise further, and thank you all.

When the scan has completed, Ewido will create a report.txt file. Click the "Save Report" button on the bottom of the screen and save the log to your desktop.
Please reboot into normal mode and post the ewido log.
Also if you have not already done this download and run from safe mode, you can delete everything it finds http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ on the right side of the page is a plugin "VX2" cleaner" download and install that cleaner. It will cleanup items like "betterinternet" that other cleaaners miss.

jabuck, thanks. I will follow these instructions and advise/post. In answer to your question, yes, there are two user profiles on his PC, Administrator & owner (why those I don't haver a clue). I have been operating under the Administrator.

Okay, I think I have "covered all the bases".
Here is the latest Ewido Log, will run Panda and advise.

I'm guessing that you have installed "JohnTheRipper" if you didn't let me know.
You killed a few with killbox, the remaining ones we can try manually.Reboot into safe mode.
Set up the computer to view hidden files by going to start>control panel>folder options>view tab>tick the circle beside "show hidden files and folders" and untick the box beside "hide extensions of known file types" and "hide protected system operating files">apply>ok.
Navigate to the following files/folders,right click on them>delete:
C:\!KillBox
C:\WINDOWS\FT1_01_0_251_GEPFAH.exe (file)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\AOL Downloads\America Online 7.0a\Xddbx.zip (most likely a folder)
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1 (folder)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\w?nspool.exe (file)
Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\config\systemprofile\Cookies (delete everthing except the index.dat file)
Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Temp (delete everything in this folder, not the folder itself)
Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Cookies ( delete everything except the index.dat file )

jabuck,I don't have a clue about "JohnThe Ripper". The only thing that I may have changed/installed was Adaware.
I will take care of the other instructions in the AM, time for a break.
Thanks so much for all your help, see you in the AM?

jabuck, the below listed files/folders could not be located. I even ran and auto file check with negative results. What do you need to see now?
C:\WINDOWS\FT1_01_0_251_GEPFAH.exe (file)C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1 (folder)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\w?nspool.exe (file)

when this folder that housed the virus was deleted "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\AOL Downloads\America Online 7.0a\Xddbx.zip" the others coud have died along with it.
The only way to know is with a Panda scan and or http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html
I would delete all the ripper files also.

I'm attaching the last two log scans, I've just about had it with this PC. As I had said before, this is a friends and if it had been mine, I would have formatted.
What/where are the "ripper" files?Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
