See if you can boot into Safe Mode and run norton. If not try running this free online scan Trend Micro

Have you run these programs yet:
Adaware SE
Spybot
cwshredder

If not they're free, download them update them and run them from safe mode. Use the stand alone version of cwshredder on the right side of the page.

Hello Dominic,

What is the name of the virus and if possible where is it located? (ie. My Documents/My Music/.....)

Also what AV are you using?

By the time you think you've learned it all..... it's all changed and you have to learn it all over again.

I ran the above programs and tehy did remove some spyware etc. but not what was causing this.
I tried using Norton in safe mode. no luck.
I am unsure as to where the virus is located but i have looked through the system manually and can't see anything out of place or anything new, so maybe the registry?
Any new viruses fit this profile?

Ok the next thing I would do is try to remember when was the last time my computer was running well and what programs I installed since then.

I'm not 100% convinced it's a virus just a program conflict of some sort. You could try uninstalling all recent programs that you installed one at a time and see if that has any affect.
