Comment:

My system was a mess with many infected files (Trojans and worms) and virus protection out of date. Bought new Norton Anti-Virus 2004 and ran pre-install scan. Could only delete 11 of 75 infected files and installation would stop every time at initialization. So (after reading some tech support help) I turned off system restore, ran the pre-install again and this time NAV completed installation. However----during the virus scan it deleted an unwise.exe file and said I should install a clean copy. Since then, nothing (and I mean nothing) on my computer works. No program will even open, including NAV, control panel, etc. I suspect this is because of the deleted unwise.exe. What should I do now?????

Hi,
I don't think the problems you have are related with the missing unwise exe,see the link what unwise is doing. http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/unwise/

You better follow the steps in
http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/6433.html

And download,updat and run CWShredder

Agree with above.

Follow this for a first time use:
Download HijackThis 1.97.0.7 new version http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
Unzip/extract all…and double click on hijackthis.exe.

· Make sure that you extract HijackThis to its own folder, and not to a \temp folder.
· Do NOT run it from a temp folder or from within a zip manager (Winzip), as no backups will be saved.
· If you have anything disabled by MSConfig or any other startup manager, please re-enable it before scanning to post. Run in normal startup mode.
*Only IF > you have run AND fixed anything with Spybot Search and Destroy or AdAware,
· THEN > please reboot before scanning

Run HijackThis,
Press Scan, and wait,
Save the log, (the ‘scan’ button changes to ‘save log’)
Edit>select All > copy and paste its contents here.

** Don't fix anything yet. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential for your system or for the log reader to resolve the problem**
Post the full log including header info in reply.
It will be reviewed by someone here.
