Virus (many?) / Win32/Rustock.gen!C

I am a babe in the woods... ok, my laptop has been crashing, every so often crashing internet explorer, then behold-- I'm told that I have "Win32/Rustock.gen!C virus" among other things. so I search some forum and it cmae down to using alternate virus detection/elimination software ("Rustbfix.exe" and Panda virus scan) but to no avail because I don't know how to properly execute those sorts of programs and in what order... oh my... I've seen a lot of folks putting up "hijack this" logs. Sould I do that? No. I'll wait. What should I do kind gardian angels of the internet message boards? My laptop is a 2005 refurbished averatec 6200... oh yes, it archaic, but I love it.
