awhile back i got a virus which apparently killed all my file associations
i can open files and run most exe files through task manager, but it would be great if i could actually use my programs withouth openeing up task manager, finding a file, and then finding the same file to open itself with when im asked how to open it.

dougknox reg fixers havent worked, neither does combofix...

help please?

timmay, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 (left column) and click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

i tried that and it says: cannot import c:\exefix.reg: not all data was succesfully written to the registry. some keys are open by the system or other processes

i also tried #173 on the left repair the registry editor which was written succesfully and than the exefix again which had the same result as before

timmay, Try merging that reg file in SAFE mode.

that didnt work either, but i noticed an administrator account i dont remember setting up that only shows up during safe mode
