There is a red shield in your taskbar with an X through it that says Your Computer is infected ! Then a popup box comes up that says Windows has detected spyware infection . click here to resolve this problem. This is the problem I am experiencing,.
I have read some posts from 2007 as to how to get rid of this problem, however, I do not find ANY .exe files mentioned in these posts, also I CANNOT download any software recommended in these posts since due to this problem my Internet does not seem to work.
Any advice would be VERY MUCH appreciated since this problem DRIVES ME NUTS!!

Try this:
1. Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK
2. On the View menu click on Show hidden devices
3. Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and you should see something like TDSSserv.sys
Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE - NOT uninstall.
4. Now RESTART your computer.
Download a copy of Malwarebytes from the provided link below but DO NOT run it yet.
5.Rename the downloaded installer file mbam-setup.exe to any generic name such as your own name but keep the .exe extension on the file and run it.
Once the program is installed go to the UPDATE tab and try to update the program if you can.
Then go to the SCANNER tab and run a Quick Scan and allow MBAM to fix anything found>Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these sites:
1. Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
2. Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
3. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
4. Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
5. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
6. Make sure that everything found is checked, and click Remove Selected.
7. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
8. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
9. Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Please download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:
Download the "HijackThis" Installer from this link:
Hijack This
1. Save " HJTInstall.exe" to your desktop.
2. Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
5.Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
7. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
8. Paste the log in your next reply.
9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I do not see ANYTHING like TDSSserv.sys where you said to look for it.
AND, I cannot download anything as I cannot connect to Internet: obviously a result of this problem, as my other computer connects to Internet without any problem.

I made a modification to item 3, look again for any drivers thats name begains with TDSS
1. Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK.
2. On the View menu click on Show hidden devices
3. Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and click the + sign to the left to expand it you should see something like TDSSserv.sys toward the bottom of that list.
4. Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE - NOT uninstall.
5. Now RESTART your computer.

DC23, Absolutely do not re-enable TDSSSERV.
For me to help you with the clean-up you need to start a thread of your own as you have hijacked someones post. So do that and state what you have done so far but do not post any logs until asked. Alert me when you have started the new thread.

This is for Fremar, and others that are having connection problem wiht this virous.
1. In device manager, un-instal all network adapters, your plug and play will re-install them after rebood if it cam wiht the system.
2. un-plug router and leavit it off.
3. reboot and let all systems start .
4. Disable all virous protection and firewalls. ( the's are what is causing connection problems)
5. after windows has re-install net adapters plug router back in and wate for connection.
This has worked for me fighting this bug.
