Specs: Windows XP, accer/2gb
how to repair virus infected folders. my folders have become shortcuts and the won't open .

The files may be in hidden mode. To change their status:

Click on Start > Run, and type in: cmd
Click on: OK

(Assuming the drive is C:)

At the blinking cursor in the command screen, copy paste the following command:

attrib -h -r -s /s /d c:\*.*

(If needed, replace the letter c with the correct drive letter.)

Now check the folders, and post back on their status.
