virus in .exe file

usually if i download a file from a shareware program i right click on the .exe file to check if there is a virus with AVG antivirus,i checked a .exe file today and it came up that it contained a virus.if i just delete this file straight away will i be ok?is a virus dormant or harmless until i install the file or has the file got into my pc without me opening the .exe file?

You have to "run" the EXE file, in order for the virus to infect you.

hello some viruses can infect system just being on your hard drive there rare.but to be sure run a complete system scan set for allfiles and floders and huristic scan. better safe than sorry have a nice day

What u get is File Infector Virus. In this case, you wouldnt get infected unless u execute the file. Just delete the file and u will be safe.
