I vary rarely have computer trouble and keep this thing spyware free and have never gotten a virus before so I am clueless on what to do. I have Norton 2005 and I make sure it's updated and it was.

I was suring some sites when Norton popped up. Not sure what site it happend at but I usually visit sites for cross stitch so was not on any new or strange ones today.

Norton said something about a trojan horse and I thought maybe it was a flase reading or someting. I did a full scan right away and it found 2 things and says cannot repair.

The two files are C windows system 32 regscan.exe and the other is 57546148.exe The second file also said process ID 1848 running in memory.
The files are in quarantine. Do I need these or can they be deleted or what do I do with them? I am having no other computer problems and scanned with adaware and spybot and only found a few things there to delete.

God knew I couldn't be a pioneer, that's why he gave me a computer!

Everyone seems to think Nortons is the best. I've news for you. I have use Bitdefender 9 for a year and a half. My wife and I have never had
a virus or anything. Keep in mind that Bitdefender has the highest rating in anti-virus protection! Pay for Nortons?--Not me.

I'm not knocking Nortons, but I advise you download the trial version (30 days). Then scan you computer in Safe Mode. We also use Webroot Anti-Spyware with Bitdefender 9 Standard. But, before you install Bitdefender or Webroot, unindtall Nortons. If you do not, you will have conficts. If you need more help, please ask. I work for a computer firm in Louisville KY.

If you do uninstall Norton, be sure to go to the norton site and get the proper removal tools for that version. If you don't remove all norton files, you won't be able to get online when you try another AV.

I would suggest d/l in Avast Free and letting it run a boot scan (if you decide to unload Norton) I have used avast for 3 yrs now without any problems...free updates as you surf, realtime virus removal...just a no muss no fuss AV, and then you should also use a good firewall. If you have SP2 installed, the windows firewall will be fine for you if your pc is only for home use. If business use, there are other free firewalls that work great.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

um I'm afraid your done for sry let me explain 57546148.exe this proccess or whatever it is impossible to get off trust me I ran my computer for 5 months with this virus spyware whatever it is and could not get rid of it 5 motnhs of searching all possible solutions and none worked I tried everything I can think off and everything I could find nothing worked so I decided to back up as many files as I could and reformat. I can give some tips in temporarily dealing with it but I havent found a way to get rid of it I no longer have this virus spyware whatever it is but now it's rare for my pc to get infected.

If you do things right it's as though you've done nothing at all.

But Norton has the files in quarantine can't I just delete them or are they important? I have had Norton for 7yrs. now and this is the first time something got through. I only had trouble once before when my brother didn't know his computer was sending out e-mails with a virus and Norton took it right out. I don't even understand how I got this to begin with.

more often then not you will never firgure out how you get any virus that goes toward spyware aswell but trust me you can't get rid of it even if you wanted to that numbered .exe file will keep coming back and not as the saame number but randomized number never the same name but will keep doing the same thing sometime if you leave you computer on for a while you will see 2 or even 3 of them running at the same time doing the same thing ans using aload of you computer resources its very annoying more annoying then any other I have encountered but well it your choice do you want to live with this or do you want to take the drastric way i suggested of course you can try and get rid of it but it will just comeback its an annoying one.

I clicked to send them to symantec so they are now gone and I will wait and see what symantec says. I scanned again in safe mode and didn't find anything and the computer seems to be running fine so I will see if anything comes back again.

I guess I was lucky using Norton for 7yrs. and once before it did the job and I didn't get anything but other than these two times I have been good. I have tried to learn and keep the computer in shape and don't think I am doing too bad. My darn subscription for the 2005 version is paid until January but I may consider using a free one if it's that much better.

I have a strange feeling that one of the regular sites I visit for cross stitch might have had a problem and didn't realize it but not sure what site it was because I am on a lot of them. Thanks for the help.
