Three days ago after I my computer wouldn't start after a re-boot. I tried to reinsall windows, but my 150 gig hd was filled. The name of my cdrive was renamed with computer symbols and only had about 200mb free. I removed my HD and put it as a slave into another so i could scan for viruses. When i viewd my hd, all the folders were renamed with computer symbols and i couldnt copy anything because an error said it was corrupt. When i was scanning the program said my drive was corrupt and i only had 13 files. It also didnt find any viruses. When i scanned the main HD of the computer i transfered to, it found 5 new viruses, one of them was Downloader.Dyfica.2.aa which couldnt be removed. So now Im stuck with a corrupt drive and another hd with new viruses on them. Any advice on what i could do w/o formating? thanks.

Use Google to find out , how to remove each virus .

Example >

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Downloader.Dyfica.2.aa+&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

Or ,

Run a virus check from 1 or all of these .

Ok, since you have an XP OS (or Me) you should disable your system restore files and clean the virus/trojans out of there:

http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm

and dod not re-enable it until you are sure you are clean.

Then expose your hidden files and folders:

Expose hidden files/folders in Xp:

Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

Then go into safe mode and run one or two of the scans provided by JohnW. I suggest the Panda scan and the TrendMicro scan; more than that you'll be driving yourself crazy.

Ok, so you are still in safe mode, while you're there clean out TIF, %TEMP%, cookies, and recycle bin.

If you are not running updated Spybot and Adaware, either pop out of safe mode and update and run them, or download and update and run them back in safe mode.

Here are two trojan specific scans and killers:

Trojan Scan:

SWATIT:
http://swatit.org/download.html

After you have done all this you have gotten rid of a lot of trash.

In safe mode run your updated AV and see what it tells you. Do all this on both HDs. I 'm assuming they are both Xp. If the other one is not XP and not Me it does not have a system restore file, so that's out. Do everything else, and post back what, if anything, you still have.
