A while back, I was browsing the web. Upon loading one page, my broswer window froze. After I close down the browser window, other programs then began to sequentially freeze. My computer slowed to a crawl and I was forced to restart.
Since that time, I occasionally have to manually turn off indentified, unresponsive programs on shut down. I have also received this message on startup in a textbox:
'Invalid Property Placed at Line "824"'
With an "ok" button beneath it a need to press before my computer would boot.
There is something messing around with my computer, but I can't identify what. I have run scans with AVG Free Edition, Spybot and Housecall, and have managed to purge an adware program and a couple of cookies, but I have not found the cause of my problem.
I know there is something there running in the background, but I can't find it to remove it.
Please help.
Thanks.

Apparently, there is a script running at startup. Run msconfig and go to the startup tab. It may be starting from there. You can disable all as a test and reboot if you aren't sure.
It could be starting from other places but I would look there first.
