Norton security alert popped up a warning about an
intrusion, but thought it had blocked it. A while later,
Internet stopped working and I couldn't open any of my
anti-virus software to do a scan. Tried safe-mode
scans, but nothing has changed. Need help!

Hi, I am experiencing a similar problem, I got virus's that I am pretty sure are completely gone, but my internet still fails to load webpages and my symantec antivirus will not update its virus definitions, but will still scan. Every program I used to scan worked properly, unlike the above problem. My internet connections shows a connection, but nothing will load in firefox or IE. Please help. Could this be caused by a .dll deleted in the process of removing the viruses?

Thank You

It may be spyware or adware problem. You can scan your computer with Malwarebytes in Safe Mode.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

You should also remove all temporary files.
Start > Run and type TEMP > OK.
Delete all temporary files and folders.

Start > Run and types %TEMP% > OK
Delete all files and folders.

Scan your whole computer with Malwarebtes in Safe Mode and remove it. It should must be updated

You can also optimize internet explorer.
Open Internet explorer > "Tools"> Internet options.
In general tab, Delete all files, browsing history, clear history.
In security tab, Set as defualt.
In content tab, Clear SSL.
In advance tab, Set as restore default.

Now, check.

Well, I did all the steps you provided, the anti malware found 12 threats and deleted them, not threats found on second scan. But, my internet connection is still dead, not loading webpages and not updating my virus definitions. any ideas?
