Does anyone know of a virus that creates a process called "hardrun.exe"? Google and Symantec searches turn up nothing. The process is chewing up CPU to the tune of 10-60%!! I can't detect any other destructive behavior.
Deleting it from registry entries doesn't help, it gets spawned again anyway.

What anti-spyware programs do you use? Have you ran any on line spyware and antivirus/trojan scans? Have you emptied the temp internet files and turned sytem restore off, restarted your computer after you deleted the registry entries. During the restart did you enter the safe mode and have you ran your spyware and antivirus programs while in it?

I scanned for spyware with AdAware 6 and Spybot 1.3, scanned with Norton AV and TrendMicro AV.
TrendMicro found a virus but I can't find it under the name in their virus encyclopedia to enact a fix. I did start in safe mode to delete the files and registry entries but it didn't help, so I think that it is another virus. I can't discover any destructive behaviour but using a process manager I see it attach itself to other processes and bounce around. Uses lots of CPU, but network traffic is nil, and I'm behind a hardware firewall as well as XP's firewall.
I'll keep trying to track the virus, maybe Vgrep has something. I'd give the name but don't have it in front of me now.
Thanks.
