Subject: (virus?) computer keeps shutting do
OS: Windows XP Professional V
CPU/Ram: 1.5 GB
Model/Manufacturer: Custom made: Intel Pentiu
Comment:
It started with one of my games (World of Warcraft) sporadically shutting down saying that files were being corrupted. Then my software such as spyware destroyer and other cleaners were being corrupted. Finally, now the computer is constantly shutting itself off randomly. Sometimes it would be when i just logged in or sometimes it could be randomly an hour or more into using it. I finally got PC Tools Antivirus installed without it being corrupted but after like...10% of it being scanned, the computer shuts down again. please help!! thanks in advance

Might not be a virus at all.

Could be overheating. If it has sensors then get them from BIOS or download one of these freebies:

EVEREST
or it's predecessor:-
AIDA32

The other possibility is RAM problems. Clean the edge connectors with a pencil eraser then pop the sticks in and out a few times to clear any tarnish off the sockets themselves.

You could try one RAM stick at a time in first position or run a memory check from www.docmemory.com

While you are in there clean all vents, fans and the CPU heat sink.

I tried cleaning everything today. The reason I don't think it was overheating is because files are being corrupted
