I did a stupid thing an downloaded a keygen from dailykeys.com - it looked sketchy but I ignored my intuitions and ran the .exe...

Then my computer rebooted and just kept rebooting endlessly. It boots all the way to the desktop, pauses for 5-10 sec, then reboots.

I tried pressing F8 but the computer doesn't respond to any input (I can move the mouse around but it won't execute any tasks).

I don't know what to do...I'm running Windows XP Home, is there some kind of boot disc I can download? I don't have one, I got the computer a long time ago...

Any ideas?
THANKS!

Sounds as though the system file C:\Windows\system32\winlogon.exe is damaged. I can't be certain.

Some of the better ways to replace the winlogon.exe file, assuming of course that's it's damaged, is to use a live boot cd like a Linux distro, Bart's PE Builder, ERD Commander (by Winternals, everyone should have this software), and replace the winlogon.exe file from your C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.

You can do a xp repair install if you have or can borrow a windows cd but you will need to reinstall all of your updates afterwards.

I'll give the ERD Commander route a try - much appreciated!
