Comment:

I've read about this before but trying some of the suggested fixes didn't work.

An icon that switches between a green wheelchair and a "no entry" sign is in my system try and on a mouse-over it says "Virus Alert!". On system startup, it installs a "Spyware Quake" program that I continue to uninstall and delete from startup files.

Randomly, it pops this blue/yellow window in the bottom right where it says that my computer is infected, blah, blah, blah...

Before this, I had "mssearchnet.exe" in my Task Manager processes. It's not showing up anymore but I doubt it's deletion.

HT Log is available on request...

Also, I ran that "smitRem" program in safe mode and I got a lot of "file could not be found" things going on. I'm not sure if this is normal.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks,

Chris~

I am no computing expert, but by reading around I figured out it was a file in the windows/system32 directory named stickrep.dll. I logged on as administator in safe mode, and deleted it and the problem has gone away.

Which fixes did you try? how about this one:

This is a new security threat, it was just added today at SpywareWarrior's Rogue Antispyware list :)

I'd like to see your hijackthis log

hmm... I don't see Spyware Quake running, which is good! :)

I've never seen these programs before:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Iowa] "C:\PROGRA~1\SKS~1\winlogon.exe" -vt mt
O4 - Global Startup: BrightWindow.LNK = C:\Program Files\BrightWindow\BrightWindow.exe

BrightWindow should be a program for your monitor (LG) if I'm correct.
Do you know any of the above named programs? Check them on www.virustotal.com by uploading.

As for the rest, run hijackthis, do a system scan and check these:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Otfpnvp] C:\Program Files\?ssembly\l?ass.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzzd32 - winzzd32.dll (file missing)

Click "fix checked"

You should be able to delete C:\Program Files\?ssembly folder in safe mode.

Here's how to start in safe mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

Post a new hijackthis log when done:)

P.S. Can anyone confirm Iowa and BrightWindow ?
