Out of nowhere a virus alert appeared on the the taskbar and locked up my task manager, C drive, and Registry. Everytime I get online Antivirus 2008 window pops up making a "scan" of my laptop. Also when I search on Google when I click on a link it sends me to another website.

The explorer.exe is also inconsistent and takes away the taskbar and icons. So far I've unlocked the task manager, downloaded HJT and made a scan but I can't get a log due to the DEP preventing Notepad to open up and make a copy to post. I've looked through the log though and found the Antivirus-2008pro.exe and other suspicious entries but I've done nothing knowing I can mess it up I would appreciate some help ASAP.

Hi,

I strongly recommend that you use Spybot Software, which was the one that I tried and worked.

By the other hand, I know that superantispyware is a good one too.

I hope it helps!.

Good luck!.

There are 2 other posts below yours that address this same problem. A solution might be found by reading them. Also don't forget to dump your temporary internet files and clear out your system restore points. I just went through a similar vundo situation myself.

If you haven't already downloaded spybot then do so, also download ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com and install the applications - the yahoo toolbar is not needed.
Run spybot and update it.
Reboot your computer and after you see the compaq logo press f8 repeatedly.
Boot into safemode and run a spybot scan and after fixing all the problems, run ccleaner, let it remove all the files it wants to and then use it to run a registory scan.
Remove all your system restore points and restart your computer, booting up normally.
Once you have determined that the infection has gone, make a new restore point.
Hth.
