I have a friends laptop that is infected. The clock says "Virus Alert", "All Programs" is gone from the start menu. When i try to run some of the recommended spyware remover software i crash to the blue screen, and then reboot. Can you help???? Thank you,

Did you look at all the other posts on this page where the subject contains "Virus Alert?" I'm sure some of them will be helpful. Life's more painless for the brainless.
Some have been somewhat helpful, but i can not get a number of the utilities to run. The computer either will not install the application, or it will crash (blue screen) when i run them. I can not clear the virus. I had a post on here that i was receiving help though, but it was removed(?) for no apparent reason. Tony

..but it was removed(?) for no apparent reason. Let's see ... if you posted a HJT log without being asked, you were given THIS warning that your post will be removed. The same Warning included link to where you can have HJT log analyzed automatically for you.
Now the question is ... Did you in fact posted HJT log without being asked?

Yes i did in fact post a HJT log prior to being asked. I was not aware that this was a violation of the rules here. The person who was helping me informed me that I was supposed to wait to post my log until asked, but was helping me anyway. The post went on for 3-4 responses, and then it was removed. Can you offer any help?

Download the software superanti spyware and malwarebytes anti-malware. The virus alert message is hidden in your registery. fix that and also run the program on the webpage i am sending you to get your admin rights back, then run the spyware programs. http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008...
i just went through the same problem. If you cannot download anything, use a flash drive on a working computer and save all the programs you need. If you're desktop is hijacked, check the desktop icon on your control panel. under andvanced, there may bea box that is directng your desktop to a webpage. uncheck the box. If the wireless is not working, right click on my computer, then go to manage, then services and applications, then services, and scroll down near the bottom till you find windows management instrumentation and wireless zero configuration. change these both back to automatic and start the service. This also helps if Norton Live update is not working. Find Live update in this same location and restart the service. This viurs sucks and it took me some time to get it fixed. Good luck.
I was able to complete the following: 1 - I downloaded and installed super antivirus, but it will not complete the scan. it crashes the laptop to a blue screen.
2 - The system will not allow me to install malwarebytes or spybot search and destroy.
3 - I removed the virus alert message by deleting 2 entries in the registery.
4 - I ran the fix that you sent me on the webpage, and i did get my admin rights back and the "All Programs link is back on the start menu.
5 - i took your suggestion and downloaded from another PC to a flash drive, but some programs will not install.
6 - the desktop does not appear to be hijacked, at least not by looking in the desktop icon on your control panel.
I am not getting the wireless to work, although when i picked it up from my friend it was working. when i try to open IE, it crashes.....does a signature of feef04bd mean anything to you?
any help would be much appreciated....
Thank you,
Tony

I had the same problem. The only way I was able to resolve it was to delete and reinstall Windows using my Windows XP OS CD. After that, the computer was fine, but my old user accounts were blocked (so I couldn't get into My Music or My Pictures in them) and I had to make files for all my programs in "All Programs." But hey, it's better than having a virus, right? I'm fluent in 7 languages and still don't know half the English language.
hahaha it's a easy 3 min fix. hahahaha
I would tell you but that what I do for a living so no help from me
