Virus Alert beside system clock

There is a Virus Alert beside my system clock. I have done some reading an realize that this is a virus. Could some one please help me clean this up.

I had Just put xp back on my computer and was in the process of finding drivers.I ha taken a break and was defraging my comp and avast started popping up viruses left and right well i ran my scanner and deleated them and now my clock is tuck on army time and next to it says VIRUS ALERT! I then ran spybot search and destroy it found 37 entries fixed entries now only problems remaining are c:/ drive under my computer is missing and the clock PLEASE CAN YOU HELP

However I'm still having a few unresolved problems as mentioned by a few others, ie, 1) My clock says the time followed by "VIRUS ALERT!". And... 2) My hard drive, C:, doesn't show in my computer though I can access it via just typing it into the address bar of any explorer window. I have another physical drive that shows up fine as well as all my memory card drives.
Any help on either of these two issues would be greatly appreciated!
