I had over 2000 infected files. Here is what i did. First did a scan with AVG in safemode. It found over 2000 infected files. So i try to open the valt it could not open for some reason. So i rebooted to try again. Then the computer would not log into windows. It ask for a password. I never set up a password. I cannot log into windows in safemode either. Also tried a repair but when i go into the recovery console it ask for password also. How can i get my computer back up without formatting the drive? Please help. Thanks

Ok repair did not fix the issue. It come to the defalt Windows XP Welcome Screen. When i select safemode it had 2 users Administrator and User. I tried both it will not log on windows it never ask for a password. Im not sure what do do now. Maybe another virus program i can try? I mean install one on this computer im useing now and slave the drive again. Something is still infecting the files the reason it want login or either the virus made a unknown password but i thought The repair would fix that issue.

I did a scan with Windows defender with the drive slaved. Here is what it found.
Risk Medium
Win32/PossibleHostsFileHijack
Risk High
Win32/UltimateCleaner
Risk High
Win32/Winfixer

I removed the above and still cannot log into windows.

Did a online scan at Housecall and it found
WORM_NUCRP.GEN
Removed it still can't log into Windows. Also adaware found some things and i removed them.

Ok for some reason i was unable to login to computing.net. I had to register again not sure whats up with that. I am on a nighbors DSL connection wireless with his permission. Someone who doese have an account here. Maybe thats why because of the same IP address? Sorry about that i am unable to have my own internet right now so thats why i have same IP as him. But anyway thanks for the reply Panther but is it possible you tell me here? I have slaved the drive to this computer and scanned it with Norton Antivirus with Antispy. Norton found about 4 things and i removed them. I really am desperate for anymore help. Im just about to give up and reformat.

The strangest thing. I woke up this morning and turned on the infected computer. I got some error about a kernal file missing or something. Thats as faras it would boot. Before i did the repair it would go to a logon screen where you type your name and a password. Scence i knew i never set a password i figured the virus locked me out. So I decidedto do a repair install. That didn't help.It came to a screen with my name i clicked it and heard the defalt xp sound then heard the shutdown sound then it would go back to where i click my name. Wierd. But this morning i wake up and find the file missing i didn't format or anything. I slave the drive to this computer im on now and i see a bunch of funny looking files all the folders are there but no normal files. I ran a scan and it didn't find any virus. Is it possible someone made a generic virus or unknown virus and put it on my computer thru a open port? My daughter just told me she was getting threats from someone on yahoo messenger that he could hack her computer. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of virus?

Try running Superantispyware through the drive, It has a high detection and removal rate.

Download and install SAS from here:

http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Su...

once downloaded and installed, open the program and click on the "check for updates" button.

after you have done the updates scan your computer / drive. Select the drive you want to scan (have you slaved it to another pc still?), and make sure "perform complete scan is selected". Click "next".

Let us know how this went.

Depending on the amount of info on the drive the scan can take quite a while. Don't worry though if it is sluggish, as it is very thorough.

If there is some generic malware that you have SAS will probably pick it up as it detects malicious script as well as uses heuristic detection processes.

Quarantine everthing it finds.
