Hello, could someone please advise me on this problem.
I have a bug on my computer which has made nearly all my computer file's sizes go to 0 bytes. most programmes don't work, only ones that do include MSN messenger and Internet explorer. Hijackthis crashes when I try to scan, and anti-virus programmes can't find the problem. There is a programme simply called 'desktop' in my startup list, which wasn't tehre before and cannot be deleted.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.
Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Try this, rename hijack this to bru.exe then try to run it. No kidding try it please. Just click on the dynamite pack>click rename and rename it bru.exe.

Hehe wow it worked! it stopped for a moment but then it worked great. Could I post my log here or should I post it somewhere else?

You have a old version of hijack This please download the newer version 1.99 from the link provided in response #1 then post a new log after you try to restore the file associations in the next two paragrahps.
Go to this link http://dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm then click on the last file on the list>run>yes. Then run the second from the last .vbs, then run the .exe file association repair.
If that does not work try to run "Fixswen.inf" from this link http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.aspx
If the file association fix worked download Ewido Security Suite then set it up this way Ewido Setup Instructions
Be sure to update Ewido and don't run it yet.
Please download ATF-Cleaner to your desktop from this link
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/ Don't run it yetNext, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Run Ewido from safe mode and let it delete all that it finds
Run ATF-Cleaner from safe mode. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Hey, nah I couldnt run it, it wanted me to install some file, and when I tried, the whole page just closed

Try this to get active x running.
Go to start>control panel>internet options>security tab>click the globe(internet)>click default level>apply>ok.
If that don't help try it this way.
Go to start> run, type in each command (one at the time and note the space after regsvr32) and press enter.regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 sccbase.dll

Although not listed as a rogue program any longer, you should uninstall Advanced Spyware Remover Free Edition at least untill you get running properly again.
Looks as though you are running two antivirus programs and maybe two fire walls, if so these can conflict. They can think the other is a virus/threat. If McAfee is up-to-date and ClamWin is a running av then uninstall ClamWin
Same with the firewall. You have windows firewall disabled which is good when another firewall is running. You are showing sygate running so if the McAfee firewall is running you need to uninstall sygate.
But before uninstalling anything confirm that MacAfee is up-to-date and usable.
Next try to boot into safe mode and run HT. See if a better log is provided in safe mode and if it is post that log.
To boot into safe mode restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Please post these:
Next run HT again>open misc. tools section>open host file manager>open in notepad>copy and post that log.
Next run HT again,open misc. tools section>open ADS spy>if there is anything list there copy and post it.
