Yesterday I downloaded a MSFT Service Pack update after MSFT sent a message suggesting it was neccesary for security. I don't know if there's a connection, but ever since I have been BOMBARDED (like 4 a minute) 24/7 while on-line with windows opening from http://vbs.searchwww.com/vbs.cgi. When opened they contain the message "Your computer may be infected with Spyware! Click here to scan your computer for free." Can someone PLEASE help me, these things are startin to make me nutz.

Does annyone know what causes this and how to get rid of it? I tried blocking the website through my firewall. It won't open it but it still keeps popping up at least 20 - 30 times a day.
Also does anyone get a message asking for server rights from udall.exe ? Immediately after I close that I get a message for abetterinternet.com.
I have said NO to both repeatedly but I get them several times a day.
Thanks.......

Has anybody noticed a drastic drop in their dialup connection speed? Mine has gone from 48 to 28Kbps in the last few days and the only thing that I can see that is different is that I get an occasional VBS new window-type popup ad.

To johnaboy: Please don't tale this as a personal criticism but your "Spyware" hyperlink to Privacy Defender 3.0 is not such a good idea. They are listed on Spyware Warrior's Rogue/Suspect list - http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Looks like a good idea to stay away from Privacy Defender, IMHO.

I found a way to get rid of VBS.Search, with some help from the kind folks at Spyware Warrior Forums. Here is what to do:

1. In WinXP go to Start > All Programs > Startup and see if there is an entry called "Search". Right-click it and select delete.

2. Next, go to Start > Run and then type msconfig, then select OK. Go to the Startup tab and look for an entry called "Search". Make sure the box next to this is unchecked and click close. Note: A few cases that have popped up didn't have the entry in msconfig.

3. Restart your computer and see if the "Search" entry is still located at either of the above locations.

4. Finally, go to Internet Explorer (even if you do not use it as your primary browser) and select Tools > Internet Options > Security. Click the red Restricted Sites icon and then click Sites. Now, type http://vbs.! searchwww.com! /vbs.cgi (link broken for safety) into the "Add this Web site to the zone" box and click Add. Doing this will prevent IE from showing this site/popup.
