Hi folks,

For the last few days, I've had a script error popping up whenever I start Explorer. The line tells me it can't connect to....

http://cs.valuead.com/code?pid=12&gid=16&rid=52130521&dom=23&dow=3&hod=8

Seeing that "valuead.com" in there, I immediately thought "spyware." Yay. Anywho, I've run the latest Adaware, Spybot, Hijack This, and Spyware Scanner updates, searched my registry for all the files labelled Valuead, and used Norton to scan my system. This thing still keeps popping up, and sometimes opens an ad window when I close Windows. Any idea what it is and how I can get rid of it?

Thanks in advance,

Muser

Why not set your, tools>internet options>advanced>browsing>check disable script debugging and uncheck display a notification aboout every script error, settings so you will not be bothered?

It's the simple things that always get looked over. Oy...

Thanks! That seems to work, though I could have sworn that I had already tried this, but whenI went to check the options, there it was, unchecked.

Just the same, I'd like to be rid of this thing. From the script error (unable to contact client messages), it looks like this is an older pest that can't connect to whatever it's programmed to report to. It pops up randomly, every ten minutes or so. Any idea how I can wipe this thing out?

Download 'Hijack This!'. Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, click "Save Log", and copy and paste it in a reply.
HijackThis!

Run HT again and check the following items. Doublecheck so as to be sure not to miss one.
Next, close all browser Windows, and have HT 'fix checked'.

You Must restart your computer in safe mode when you're done.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\System32\services\services.exe

In safe mode delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\gfdsia.exe

i've been getting a version of this error also. it comes up as "http://cs.valuead.+com/code?pid=12&gid=16&rid=909581142&dom=30&dow=3&hod=2" however, it doesn't come up quite as regularly as Muser.

i ran spyware search and destroy and a few things came up which i promptly destroyed. i just got the message again while using the administrator control panel for my website and i really don't want to be sending any info out from there. this is the hijack this log:
