Specs: Windows XP
My AVG keeps showing virus in c:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe. AVG calls it Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic.11.TIT. It is white listed as it is in critical file. I know enough to make myself dangerous, but I am far from an expert. I am having problems getting this one off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

... make a copy of the file "userinit.exe" and upload it to the link below to have it scanned:

... "Userinit.exe" is a program that restores your profile, fonts, colors, etc for your username (without it you may end in logon loops). It is possible to add further programs that will launch from the "reg" key by separating the programs with a comma, check to see if it is launching something else! (click "start" run (type) regedit) eg:

+HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon << click pic here

Userinit =C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,C:\path\badprogram.exe

Hi, Bill

Please do the following:
1) Download this file:
2) Unzip it and run HijackThis.exe
3) Click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button
4) Paste log file that program generated to your next reply

Maybe it will show something wrong.
