a toolbar has appeared that i dont know how to get rid of. i have tried various anti-virus programs, spy-bot and cwshredder. i even tried to uninstall it but it does not apear in the add/remove programs list. thanks for any help.

Not knowing the name of the toolbar really makes it difficult to help you.
Clean up some files.
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Temp and delete the contents of that folder(not the folder itself )
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch and delete the contents of the folder.For each user of the computer go to C:\Documents and Settings\<each user>\Local Settings and delete the contenets of these three folders if they exist:
Temp
Temporary Internet Files
History
And for each user go to C:\Documents and Settings\<each user>\Cookies and delete the contents of that folder.
Index files will not delete.Then Please download
1. ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

2 - When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select an option, and then press ENTER.
3 - When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.Once the updates are installed and you are in Safe Mode do the following:
Launch ewido again.
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.You will most likely need to post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the tollbar can be identified if ewido did not solve the problem or you do not know its name.. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.
Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor and post it..Do not fix anthing yet. Let someone review your log. ---jabuck

Jboy, I volunteered becaused I believe that I can help and that supplying an HT analyzer would be like telling someone to go help themselves. And it don't look like your post is helping.

okay first thanks for all the help. i have way more problems now than before. now that Toolbar Cop doesnt work for me. either the file is corrupted or it says an error. jabuck i tried to do everything you said. when i got to restart my computer in safe mode it just keeps on restarting. i dont know why. i used to be able to start in safe mode. heres my log.

I'm reviewing you log. You do have nail.exe and a LSP problem amoung others. I will get back to you soon.

One good thing is that the 010(Layered Service Provider) items in your HT log is not a problem. Try starting the computer in safe mode with the following directions then run ewido in safe mode to hopefully get rid of the nail infection.
Go to start>run>type msconfig>ok>boot.ini tab>check the box beside /safeboot>apply>ok>restart the computer.
The computer should now start in safe mode on every boot. To change this after running ewido in safe mode go back into msconfig and check the circle beside normal startup>apply ok.
Once you run ewido in safe mode post a new HT log.

ok i did what you said to start it in safe mode but my computer now keeps on restarting in an endless loop. i push down f8 to get the options out but no matter what option i choose it restarts. i was able to once stop it to see what the error message was but i forgot how to do it now. i also tried to repair windows xp but when the repair was done during the boot up samething keeps on happening. if i choose safe mode or the other 2 safe mode options it stops at something like "mup.sys" and it just freezes. im not sure if thats the exact name but i know its close. well any ways thanks for your help.

It sound as though you have some hardware issues along with your other problems. You may want to consider reinstalling xp instaed of a repair.

I too have pokapoka62.exe. it appears right after startup for less than 1 second in taskman. so little time that i couldnt even read it (needed to boot a few times). it is NOT in the windows/etb dir. there is no such dir. there's no regentry wtih "pokapoka62.exe". and no file named that on my system. i'm running the same as the guy above (XP SP1).
