Solved unwanted contacts, how to delete

Specs: Windows 7

I have unwanted contacts in my contact list for hotmail. They only show up when I'm trying to send an e-mail. Searching the contact list at any other time, they will not appear. How can I delete them?

Address / Contacts
Unknown/unwanted entries, go into the subsection > View Invitations.

If you mean they show up in a pop up box when typing in an e-mail address, try using the up & down arrow keys to highlight the one to delete and then press the delete key. This works for Outlook 2007 so it might for Hotmail as well.

Thank you, but that doesn't work. Note:these 2 names are visible in my contact list when I try to send a new e-mail. However, when looking at my list of contacts at any other time, they are not visible. When looking at them , with the right mouse button, the "delete" availability does not appear. I'm very perplexed with this, and cannot figure a way around it. It does not appear to cause any problem, but it is something I wish to get rid of.

Having the same problem here on my mother's account. Only help I've come across is:

* change password
* Options > Customizing Hotmail > Advanced Privacy Settings
Select "Only suggest people in my contact list"

Does not fix the problem, but keeps it from getting worse. As a point of reference, this solution I came across was originally posted a year ago, so this is nothing new to Hotmail. Best of luck to all.

I had the same problem and this worked for me.
Only you can formally add a contact. Only you can delete a contact.
Go to and remove undesired entries.

That was it. I found many invites but the ones that were in my pop up contacts list were the ones causing me grief. Deleted and changes my invitations settings. I was getting e mails from people saying my address book was hijacked and lowand behold e mails to everyone went out for all kinds of stuff. Embarrasing to as it compromised my privacy as every e mail address went out to EVERYONE. Lesson learned and lesson BURNED.

onkhura June 10, 2011 at 23:22:25 Pacific response work,
reason is not these people in our contact_list,
they are the list of people (from nowhere) just want to contact us (waiting for our response) -- they got nothing to do, but just go to {message} and say [No Thanks],
I have 5 waiting, with onkhura's help, I removed 4, one left behind !

Onkhura ! you did a good work

I just found the answer to this. If you hit contacts on the left hand side of your screen it will give you a list on the left. Under friends there will be an option "view invitations". Click this and it will take you to a list of people who are inviting you to be there friend. If you click not to accept them it will remove them from this list.
Hope this helps. I use hotmail, don't know if it works for anything else.

everyone suggested that we go to Hotmail> Contacts> view invitations. i did, i had only two invitations from people i knew. but just for the heck of it, i said no thanks--in case hotmail was using there addresses to populate my address book. now i dont have any invitations but i still have unwanted addresses popping up when i go to compose a message. FML.

got it figured out. all ^ ^ ^ you nut cases were wrong. the contact list invitation has nothing to do with unwanted addresses popping up. its the privacy settings under the options.

on the right corner...right below your name, select Options>more options..> now selects Advanced privacy settings> and choose the option that says "Only suggest people in my contact list"
