OS: Win XP
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon 2800+ / 1 GB R
Product: Assembled
Comment:

Since yesterday, my scroll bar, and hence any page Im trying to view starts scrolling up and down continuously. This happens to web browsers, Windows browsers, Winamp volume scroll bar and Windows picture and fax viewer zoom in/out button. It might be happening to other applications as well, but I've noticed it in the above instances.

The page content and scroll bar bounce up and down so fast that it's impossible to click on anything. So right now Im using my office PC.

Could this be a virus? Is there a way around this?

Specs:

AMD Athlon 2800+
512+512 MB RAM
80 GB HDD
MSI K8MM-V motherboard w/ 64 MB onboard graphics card
Win XP
McAffee AV

Thanks,
Stan

Stan,

Have to start with the obvious question first. Do you have a wireless mouse, by chance?? If so, have you checked the batteries? Have you tried a different mouse?? And will also ask. Do you have any virus protection, on this computer?? And if so, is your virus protection updated? Like I said, have to start with obvious first. Might be, might not, but needs to be asked.

Good Luck,
CrazyOne

Thanks for the reply...
No, i don't have a wireless mouse connected. I doubt it's got anything to do with the mouse as the scroll bar bounces even without touching the mouse. I have Mcaffee installed, and I think it automatically updates itself. Have you heard of any virus doing something like this?

A malfunctioning mouse or keyboard could be the problem. I'd advise trying a different mouse, then if no joy, a different keyboard.
