Just wondering if there are any networking genius out there... I have a WBR-3400TX and I have setup WPA-PSK (with numbers and letters exceeding 30+ char, caps and sml ltrs), SSID disable, and with mac address control feature. WDS is currently disable but, I'm going to enable this feature in the future. Running winxp sp2 and currently router is allowed to connect to two computers, wired and wireless.

The problem is, when I viewed my log on the router. It's registering a very frequent attempt to log into my router. It's the same mac address trying 6times a minute. Just wondering what measure can I take or if even I should worry about it at all? Thanks...

here's the part of the log.

Also, under the mac control: I added the mac address of my wired and wireless computers to enable access to the router and internet. I added the mac address of the "unallowed access" to the list also but, disabled the feature that will enable access to the router and internet. Worried and kinda wanna find out who's 00-18-3F-04-DB-89. Just wondering, can I search who manufactured the wireless card via mac address and maybe can trace it to the company who used it and who sold it? thanks.

Not sure if you can track the mac address of the computer in question to its point of sale.

You can enter the first three octets (in your case 00-18-3F) of the offending mac address at this site to find the vendor of the hardware:

http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/o...

It sounds like you have a very strong encryption key. I myself use upper case and lower case letters with numbers and symbols. I also use gibberish that would render a brute force attack with a dictionary quite inneffective. I also use all 63 characters I'm allowed for my key.

I spoke to my isp provider about the strength of wpa encryption and they predicted it could take at the least 150 hours of continuous attack with a medium secure encryption.

Your mac address filtering will keep them out unless they clone the allowed mac address. I would keep an eye on the log file just to be sure they haven't done this. Even if they manage to do this they would still need to crack your encryption.

The disabling of SSID is another good measure although there are programs available that detect hidden wireless networks.

The fact of the matter is that wireless technology isn't 100% secure. But can be as secure as you make it with all the measures you have taken.

I would say also that it is someone in the local area trying to gain access and they will probably give up when they realise you have very good security measures, they will probably move on to a network less secure if there's one about.
