Unable to remove mywebsearch

September 7, 2010 at 10:30:46
Specs: Windows 7
Today a scan with spybot s&d showed numerous entries of mywebsearch, but was unable to remove them. I have uninstalled the program, and deleted any file that I can find relating to it, but spybot still comes up with entries, and still cannot remove them. Anyone able to help?

Try using Malwarebytes instead.

Tried malwarebytes, and it successfully removed some entries, but spybot is still showing more that malware bytes cannot find. Also, spybot keeps telling me to try again as an administrator, which I find odd, because my user account is set to administrator.

hey. what u need to do is first find "mywebsearch" in your program files and delete the whole folder.

next is the bit u need to be careful with and wudnt recomend to any 1 if they are not confident in what they are doing:

type: run into the windows 7 search bar and click the run application that shows up. into the box you need to type: regedit

this will open up a screen with a filing system WARNING!!!! do not delete anything other than what i say.

click the + next to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"
click the + next to "software"
now look for "mywebsearch" and delete the folder

now click the + next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
again click the +next to "software"
now look for "mywebsearch" and delete the folder

repeat again for "HKEY_USERS"

hopefully that should be it but run the search again just to be sure

Thanks, Fierox

p.s. dont install any toolbars other than the obvious trusted 1's such as google or yahoo. better still just use google normally. im guessing it was to earn free points or credits for a games site you would otherwise have had to pay for amiright?
