I have recently (in the last week) developed problems with my ability to log on to most websites and to log on to my IM's. I am also unable to connect to MSN Explorer. Any site that requires me to go to a sign in page will not work it says that the page is not available when I click on the links to sign in. MSN explorer (my preferred browser) will continuously attempt to connect me to it's service but it is unable to do so. That is the same problem I encounter when trying to use Windows Messenger. I thought perhaps it was a problem with MSN but have checked into it on other computers and have no problem signing in. I am getting very frustrated because I do everything online and now I can't do my banking or file my unemployment or anything. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my internet software (netzero hi speed) but it did not correct the problem. I tried running my virus scan as well as adaware and spybot and that has also not helped. I do not know what else to try. Please HELP

Try safe mode with networking and do online scans with any or all of the following.
Housecall,
Bitdefender
Kaspersky
and see if that clears up your problem
You may also include Sptware Blaster as well as Windows Defender to your spyware cleaners

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Ok I am really new to XP can you let me know how to restart in safe mode? I don't have that option from the restart menu like I did in 98. I am going to try the other programs that you recommended to see if they help. Thanks

Ok I tried restarting in safe mode but I couldn't run the programs recommended cause I coudn't get online to get them. Can't connect to the internet when I was in safe mode. The problems I am experiencing are always while I am online so I am not so sure what to do. I did try running Housecall and it took four hours to initialize and never did finish so i cancelled it. I have tried running three different virus scans as well as the adaware and spybot and nothing major was found (just some cookies that I deleted) There has been no change in my ability to log on to any sites?

To do your safe mode online scans, you have to go into safe mode with networking, not just safe mode. Then you'll be able to use the scans

Ok I ran all of the scans you recommended and nothing was found. They did not detect any errors. I tried again uninstalling and reinstalling netzero and can't find a problem. Could it be something in settings that I screwed up or anything like that? I need my computer back to 100%

Download Avast! free AV and make sure to disable your current AV. Then install avast and let it do a bootscan on reboot and whatever it finds...MOVE it to the chest, don't use any other command.

You said "Could it be something in settings...." Certainly could be. What settings did you change?
