It started with a blue screen error saying I should remove any new software or hardware (there was none.) A system restore got rid of the problem. Came back a day later, system restore did not help. After the initial loading screen, the screen went blank. Was able to run safe mode and back up my important data but using msconfig to disable everything for a boot did not help. (I noticed that when I selected "run" that "diskpart" was first in the selection window (I didn't use it.) Now safe mode will not run. I tried a windows restore but I am asked to select an operating system and when i select 1: c:\windows (the only choice), all I get is a c:\windows prompt and nothing else happens. I notice I have 2 partitions on the the drive one is 8mb, and the other is the rest of the 60meg. What do I do now? Is the 8mb partition valid? Can I still do a windows restore? If not, do I reformat? Do I delete the 8mb partition? Reinstall windows?

Anytime a screen goes blank, the first thing I do is check the power supply and the fans.

Assuming the power supply is ok...I suspect you are gonna need to reformat and reinstall Windows...
You can delete the 8mb partition...it may be nothing, it may be something the mfg put in...but you won't need it...

good luck

The smaller partition may be a Recovery Partition. Check HP's Support Site.
