Is it OK to have the AutoMatic Live update service set to off . It seemed when looking over my event viewer that this service was pinging into checking for updates every 10 minutes or less ,each time resulting in a event being listed and each time it would say "rolling back to excution to 11:00A.M. " the time it would say it was rolling back would change of course ! I would finally get one that said sucess and then for a little while the automatic live update would stop, then the whole process of pinging into the service would start over again with several listings again ? Thats why I decided to turn off automatic update. Now I have a red shield icon with a x in the middle on my taskbar ,lower right hand side. Any suggestions or advice as always greatly appreciated .
Thank You ,Nick

FWIW I don't use "automatic" Windows (or Windows Defender) updates but I left the service available. Instead I turned it off from Control Panel > Security Center.
This does not give me a shield in the tray and I elect to do all my updates weekly from WU (unless I feel there is some reason to act sooner).

I was able to turn off automatic live update from within the Norton Security Suite ,however the red shield still remains on my taskbar ? I have all kind of warnings that my security is being compramised by having the live update service turned off. I turned it back on for now and sure enough the constant listing of live update in the event viewr continues. Odd thing even after I turned it off. I was still getting listing referancing the live update service ,I guess its a monster you just cant beat !
Thanks Nick

Aha, I didn't realise you had Norton on there. This kinda takes over security things and makes a big difference to your way forward.
