Before I install AVG, I would like to know if it will install without it loading at Boot Up, I would like to turn it on and off at my choice, but want to make sure this is ok and still offer the protection.

You can turn off what they call resident shield at bootup so that it will not load . This will leave you open if you do this . The only reason I could think you would want to do this is if you are trying to run defrag or something like that . This AV uses little resources and does not affect computer performance .

It's not disabled when you do that, services are still running and kernel driver still loads ... it won't give you alerts , but if you install another antivirus you might get problems.

Just get a little utility called Startup Control Panel. You then uncheck any program you don't want starting with Windows. It sure beats having to go to msconfig.

Thanks Dick, I will that program over, I have noticed going to msconfig and unchecking sometimes does leave undesireable affects, I too don't like going there. Every time I install something it says to disable virus protection when installing and it goofs up with my virus protection Mcafee program so don't want it again wanted to try AVG as that is what I use tohave.
