I tried installing zonealarm free, it didn't install correctly and now I can't uninstall. I keep getting and error saying truevector has stopped working. I get that constantly, I must need that to uninstall zonealarm. How can I uninstall this? Do I really need zonealarm or is the windows firewall enough?

I have fixed my prob. by using system restore. It seems like whenever I try to install security programs(virus:avg, spyware:adaware, firewall:zonealarm) I have issues, is this because of Vista, I never have had these problems with XP.

Hiya Jeff,

This could possibly be because of vista. The restrictions are tighter to prevent the installation of unwanted software i.e. malware.

This being said I never had problems installing zonealarm or any security software on my Vista pc.

As a habit when installing software (when you activate or double click the installation .exe), it pays to right click instead and choose "run as administrator". Make sure the account you use to install the software has administrator priviledges.

If still unsuccessful with the installation there may be something else amiss.

Have a go by installing your software with administrator priviledges and let us know how you go.

P.S. It is adviseable on any system to only have one software firewall (I believe Zonealarm install switches windows firewall off by default) and one antivirus program running as they can conflict. You can basically have as many anti spyware and adware programs as you wish. Be sure to check for Vista compatibility and download the correct version(s)

Thanks for all your advice. If I'm not using the admin. user but it asks me for the admin. password, would that be the same as having admin. privledges?

If the user account has admin priviledges enabled you can basically right click any executeable (.exe file) and choose the option "run as administrator".

It sounds like the account(s) have been set up for a password prompt upon login. This may not necessarily mean they have admin rights. Once you're logged in try right clicking the install file and choosing to install as administrator. This is the easiest way to do it.
