JavaScript and Java are different things. You install Java, not JavaScript. Your web browser interprets JavaScript code in order to make web pages dynamic.

I'm still confused why this question came up though. McAfee doesn't require Java to be installed, at least as far as I've ever known. Am I right to guess that you were asked if your web browser has JavaScript enabled because the website you were provided with to obtain the McAfee download link was poorly designed and requires JavaScript to be enabled?

I opened up the Free tools page ( and seen for myself that they do use JavaScript to view sections for other tools they provide, such as Scanning Tools.

In order to provide proper directions for enabling JavaScript, we'll need to know which web browser you're using.
-In Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Content tab > checkmark: Enable JavaScript.
-In Firefox with Menu bar disabled, go to orange Firefox button > Options > Options > Content tab > checkmark: Enable JavaScript.

I strongly recommend avoiding McAfee. They have a long history of providing inferior products. Instead, consider the free versions of either Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, or Avast. Just one of those to have a real-time scanner. Then follow that up with the on-demand programs Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware, which you should update and do at least quick scans on once a week.

Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily, but you're welcome to PM me as a reminder.
