Zone alarm will ask me if I want to allow a program to access the internet. Would it do this if I had a trojon, or do the virus writers have a way to bypass the firewall?

You have some programs that need to access the internet. If you are not sure what is going on, deny access and wait to see what happens. As long as you are using the allow one time mode, you can easily maintain comtrol without any problems. Go to the sites like PC FLANK, VNUNET, GIBSON RESEARCH and the various on line pc magazine sites for more information. You could also get a anti-TROJAN PROGRAM, I like Agnitum's TAUSCAN. All the best!

well......zone alarm is by far the best homeuse firewall.....if you can get zonealarm pro its even better. thats the one i have. i dont run a server so this one is fine for me. As long as you are aware of what applications are running and have your firewall on "high" no trojan should be able to get out of your pc. Example: if you are on the internet writing and email and all by itself a program called "Backdoor" is trying to get internet access that you didnt ask for...then you shouldnt let it get access. If you are unsure of how well your firewall is protecting you...go to www.grc.com and do the "shields up" port scan. That page is great for a novice to PC security. Thats a good place to start if you want to become more aware of how trojans work
Summary: It's not as simple as software vs. hardware firewalls. For example, many "hardware" firewalls run embedded Linux and therefore use the same firewall software as my desktop that runs Linux. My router, ...
Summary: I was wondering how likely it is for trojans to be able to by pass a firewall. I would like to know what you think about this, happening from both "sides" of the firewall. 1.I've read that even if yo...
