Comment:
I recently ran a virus scan with StopSign and it found this:

Trojan.PWS.Tanspy Application

Is this a dangerous virus?

It says that C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvid.dll is infected.

What is C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvid.dll?

How do I delete the trojan? StopSign is the only virus scanner that found it and it says I have to pay to remove the virus. Can I remove it for free some other way?

Could I remove it by deleting C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvid.dll? Or would this mess up my computer?

sounds like a false positive to get you to buy the product. That's why I NEVER try those demos, simply not worth it. If nothing else finds the problem, chances are you don't have it.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

G'day,
I to ran "Stop" and received the same message that tanspy was on my comp. When I googled it I was taken to a French site with instructions on removing the problem.
On the site, after translating from French,A user stated that they could not open msn.And had Tanspy on their machine.
I have the same problem after STUPIDLY clicking on a link sent by one of my friends in an offline Yahoo message. The link took me to a Yahoo photo upload site.
Any comments would be appreciated APART from dont open links.
Thanks.
